Description:

Please BYOMat :-)

The root chakra governs our physical vitality, survival, security, money, family relationships, and generally how grounded and present we are on this Earth.  When our root or base chakra is balanced, our basic needs in life are met, and we feel a sense of stability and security.  When this area is under active, it can manifest as increased stress levels, money problems, and/or physical ailments and obesity.
Familial and physical identity is also governed by the root chakra.  We will explore what this looks like from the perspective of  women of the African diaspora and how root chakra issues are a recurring theme in the lives of African-Americans.
Healing ourselves from the roots up promotes a strong body, mind, spirit connection.  The asana (yoga pose) portion of this class will be for all levels.  Please dress comfortably and bring a journal to take notes.

About Vanessa
Vanessa Hazzard-Tillman has been a massage therapist and Reiki master/teacher for over six years.  She completed her yoga teacher training in 2011.   Yoga has been a transformational tool for self-growth in her life and she is excited to share the gift of yoga to any and all peoples!  Vanessa is currently raising $20K for humanitarian efforts in Haiti via a project called Off the Mat, Into the World (OTM).   OTM uses yoga as a form of social activism and has raised over $2 million for developing countries since 2007.  Vanessa is both honored and blessed to be of service to the Haitian people and raise money for sustainable solutions there while sharing yoga in the States.  In Feb. 2012, Vanessa will travel to Haiti with the OTM Team and assist firsthand in building an orphanage, school, planting trees, removing garbage and other projects. A portion of the money  from this class will benefit Haiti.
